Antimicrobial susceptibility of pathogenic bacteria in Thoroughbred racehorses in Japan
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacteria is a global problem. In equine practice, monitoring of AMR and antimicrobial stewardship are required.
We investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility of pathogenic bacteria in Thoroughbred racehorses in Japan.
In Japanese Thoroughbred racehorses, increased AMR is a concern for E. coli and S. aureus but not for P. aeruginosa or S. zooepidemicus. Since there are effective agents against E. coli and S. aureus with AMR, adequate selection and prudent use of these agents are important to control infectious bacterial diseases.
